sippin' on aloe juice

The aloe plant grows in tropical climates around the world and has long been cultivated for its agricultural and medicinal purposes. It may not look like much, but the clear juice or gel that comes out of the plant is actually pretty powerful stuff! It was dubbed the 'plant of immortality' by the Egyptians due to their faith in its regenerative properties, and whilst we aren't sure it can help you live forever it does certainly have some pretty powerful health-boosting properties. If you're interested in knowing what these are and how you can incorporate this 'wonder-plant' into your evening tipple then keep reading!

It detoxifies

Aloe vera juice is crammed full of amino acids, vitamins and minerals making it one of nature’s most effective cleansers. It can help strengthen digestion and rid the body of any nasty waste, thus detoxifying the body naturally.

It supports the immune system

Aloe vera is packed full of immune-boosting polysaccharides which help the immune system to behave properly.

It lowers cholesterol and blood sugar

There is some evidence to suggest aloe vera lowers cholesterol and has a positive effect on blood sugar levels, meaning it can be useful for treating diabetes and obesity.

Excellent for digestion

It’s worth trying for anyone who suffers with digestion problems like IBS. Its healing and soothing properties can help with the painful symptoms.

So, now you know how good aloe vera juice is for you, you probably want to start drinking it right away, right? Unfortunately, (and sorry for those who disagree with this...) but aloe vera juice just doesn't taste very good! Don't worry though, we've come up with an ingenious way for you to get and enjoy your dose of nature's elixir - in a delicious Chase cocktail! We've mixed fresh aloe juice with our elderflower liqueur for a refreshing and delicious taste. Here's the recipe (you can buy aloe vera juice at most health food shops including Holland and Barrett and Grape Tree):

Aloe Vodka Cooler

100ml pineapple juice

2 tbsp aloe vera gel

3 mint leaves

1 lime, juiced

50ml Chase Vodka

25ml Chase Elderflower Liqueur

 Directions:

Fillet an aloe vera leaf and scoop out the clear gel inside.  Blend 2 tablespoons of the gel with the lime juice and water until smooth and foamy. Combine in a short glass with pineapple juice, ice and vodka. Muddle in mint leaves
