With next month kicking off potato planting season, we thought we’d briefly talk about what makes Herefordshire’s soil so special when it comes to farming.
Known for its rich, sandy, red soil, the region of Herefordshire boasts some of the richest farmland in the world – providing the perfect conditions when growing potatoes. It is here at our farm distillery that we grow Lady Claire and King Edward spuds to be used as the base of our award-winning Chase Vodka – as well as cider apples for our Naked Chase Apple Vodka and our Williams Elegant Gin.
Cocktail and drinks mastermind Ryan Chetiyawardana, known for experimenting with various ingredients, was so intrigued by Hereford’s soil he decided to create a cocktail out of it.
Chase spud bags were filled to the brim with the iconic red soil from our farm, and shipped to London where Ryan would begin creating his concoction – made using our Naked Chase Apple Vodka as the cocktails base.
The result… the Earth of England cocktail, which was surprisingly delicious!
If you’re ever in London and you’d like to try one of Ryan’s creations for yourself, we recommend visiting one of his bars, the White Lyan which recently won ‘Best New International Cocktail Bar” in 2014.
