THE GREAT GROUSE RACE

From estate to plate in under 12 hours, be one of the first to taste the new season’s grouse at The Jugged Hare this Glorious Twelfth.

The Glorious Twelfth

On Tuesday 12th August, long-time game aficionados ETM Group will, alongside Ben Weatherall of Yorkshire Game, be heading out onto the stunning Yorkshire heather moors at first light to bag the first braces of the season.

With their heads firmly in the game, they will then race down from North Yorkshire to The Jugged Hare, in the City of London to bring lucky customers a dish that often doesn’t appear on the menu until 13th or 14th August. Witness the Land Rovers’ screech to a halt outside the restaurant during a drinks reception with William Chase’s unique Sloe and Mulberry Gin before chefs pluck, truss and cook up a storm in time for a delicious game dinner with matched wines at 7pm. Guests will be able to follow their dinner’s progress throughout the day via @TheJuggedHare #greatgrouserace.

Alongside the season’s first grouse, The Jugged Hare’s eponymous 18th century dish will also be served. Cooked in a traditional tall jug, the slow-braised hare meat is finished off with a sauce of its own blood and is one of the finest examples of this under-used meat you will find in the capital.

Tickets for the 5-course dinner, held downstairs in the atmospheric Josephine Room, cost £85 per person – for 2014’s first taste of the beautiful bird. There really can be nothing to grouse about!
